IPPA, AIP and PACT

IPPA, AIP and PACT
The creation of a unified film and television trade body for independent producers, the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT), can be viewed as the result of the increasing closeness of film and television production and the increase in use of independent television producers. PACT was formed in 1991 when the Independent Programme Producers Association (IPPA) and The Producers’ Association (TPA) merged. The IPPA formed in 1981 to fight initially for independent producers’ rights in regard to Channel 4 and later for more access to the BBC and ITV. The TPA itself was the result of a merger in 1990 of the Association of Independent Producers (AIP) and the British Film and Television Producers’ Association (BFTA).
